It was a wonderful privilege to chat with Dr. Jennifer Holberg. If you listened to my conversation with (the Notorious) Karen Swallow Prior, you’ll remember that I get a little nervous talking with English professors, haha!, but, like KSP, Jennifer was a delight! Jennifer teaches at Calvin University where she is the chair of the English Department. Thankfully, there’s no shame with Jennifer when it comes to what we’ve read or haven’t read. She is more interested in how what we’ve read continues to shape us. We chatted about the power of narrative in our lives in general and how … Continue reading Episode 222 – Jennifer Holberg

[00:00:07] Speaker A: Welcome to that makes Total Sense, a podcast dedicated to exploring God's generosity and justice. I'm Alexis Busetti, a Christian aiming to ask good questions and encouraging you to do the same. Every one of us is wired by God to live out generosity and justice, but the how sometimes Elusa that makes total sense is a way for us to get together, posture ourselves as learners, and challenge one another to practice generosity and justice in a tangible way every day. [00:00:41] Speaker B: So I am super pumped. Jennifer, I just want to say first, before we even get going, that the COVID of this book is incredibly beautiful. [00:00:54] Speaker C: It is, isn't it? I feel so lucky. I don't know if people know that authors don't actually have much say in the COVID It's all a lot of marketing people and design people. So when it got sent to me, my editor gave me the oh, you don't have any say. But we would take input. And my only input was, I love it's so this man, the man who designed it, David Facet, is just incredibly talented. I actually Googled him and saw that he has really very beautiful covers. And it's weird, but I'm not a very visual person. I'm much more of a word person, unsurprisingly. But it really does kind of capture what the book is about, all of the swirly and all the ways that the story goes. But also there's a lovely plant on the back that then is the beginning of every chapter. And I love that idea of the organic. Anyway, it's so striking. So I feel just very blessed to have been gifted such a beautiful cover to send the book into the world. It's gorgeous. [00:02:16] Speaker B: It's gorgeous. So if you haven't figured it out yet, I'm with Jennifer Holberg, professor, author of this incredible work called Nourishing Narratives, the Power of Story to shape our faith. And I will tell you that I usually check out the endorsements, as I think most do. This is why they exist, right? And notorious KSP Karen Swallow Pryor was on the podcast not long ago, and I will tell you, we can thank Karen. Thank you Karen. I got my jitters out talking with her.
